What are braces?
Braces are a specialised orthodontic treatment designed to correct misaligned teeth and bite issues. At Dazzling Smile Dental, we offer various braces solutions to help you achieve a straighter, healthier smile.
Braces consist of metal brackets, wires and sometimes bands working together to gradually shift and align your teeth into the proper position over time.
How do I know if braces are right for me?
Braces are not only chosen for cosmetic purposes; they also have major benefits for your oral health.
- Crowded and misaligned teeth can encourage plaque and bacteria build-up, making them hard to reach with brushing and flossing, resulting in decay and cavities.
- Bite abnormalities such as an overjet, overbite, open bite and under-bite can not only be uncomfortable but can interfere with speaking, eating and chewing. If not corrected can also lead to headaches, tension and pain.
- As well as improving the function and structure of your mouth, braces can also improve your self-esteem and confidence.
Although it’s more common for children to receive braces, we offer braces for patients of all ages — you are never too old to achieve your best smile!
What does getting braces entail, and how long will I have them?
- We start with having a consultation to assess your teeth and discuss your goals. Your dentist will give you a breakdown of the treatment and how long it’s expected to take.
- Once we have confirmed your treatment, we will attach the braces to your teeth and schedule follow-up appointments.
- At each appointment, which will be scheduled every 4-10 weeks, the wire is tightened or adjusted slightly until, eventually, all the teeth have moved into the desired place.
The length of time that you will need braces will depend on the amount of alignment that needs to be done. On average, most people have them for between 6-24 months.
What happens once the braces come off?
After treatment, you will be given a retainer to wear at night to maintain the position of your teeth and ensure that your teeth do not move back after treatment. It is vital to wear these for the length of time recommended by your dentist in order for treatment to last.
How much do braces cost?
We have several packages to choose from to suit your needs:
- Package 1: This package includes an oral hygiene appointment every six months, estimated at R22 000.
- Package 2: This package includes an oral hygiene appointment every 6 months as well as teeth whitening at the end of the treatment, estimated at R25 000.
- Package 3: This Package includes an oral hygiene appointment every six months, and teeth whitening at the end of your treatment as well as retainers to maintain the treatment, estimated at R28 000.
