Fillings

Preserving your natural teeth is our top priority here at Dazzling Smile, so we always try to repair or restore your tooth before opting for more serious measures. Our tooth-coloured fillings are ideal for fixing cavities and preventing further decay.

Why would I need a filling?

Fillings are a versatile dental treatment that can fix a range of dental issues. At Dazzling Smile, we use fillings to repair and restore teeth damaged by:

  • Cavities
  • Tooth decay
  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Injuries
  • Root canal therapy

What can I expect when getting a filling for the first time?

Fillings are one of the most common dental procedures, with over 84% of adults having at least one filling. If you are one of the lucky 16% who have not had to have a filling yet, then you may be wondering what to expect during the procedure.

Depending on the size of the decaying area or the extent of the broken tooth, a filling should take no longer than an hour.

  • Your dentist will begin by giving you a local anaesthetic to numb the surrounding area and then removes the decayed tissue with a small drill instrument.
  • Once all the decay and debris have been removed, your filling will be placed, either with composite resin or porcelain.
  • We then polish the area, ensuring that there are no sharp edges or rough surfaces.

What happens after my appointment?

As fillings are a minimally invasive and relatively quick procedure, you should not experience much pain or discomfort following your procedure.

You may experience some discomfort on the day of the appointment as the anaesthetic wears off, and you may experience tooth sensitivity when eating hot or cold foods for a couple of days after your appointment.

Some fillings take some time to set, our team may recommend that you avoid hard or sticky food like toffees or sweets for a few days after your appointment.

How long do fillings last?

Fillings can last for up to 15 years, depending on the material used and if you take proper care of your oral health. Over time though, fillings can crack and be susceptible to food particles getting stuck in the crack, making your teeth vulnerable to further tooth decay. That’s why it’s important to keep up with regular routine dental check-ups to ensure that your fillings are still in good condition.

concerns about the potential health risks associated with metal fillings, so we provide a gentle and meticulous approach to removing old fillings.
